Welcome, all, to my new ArtBlog. Comments are appreciated.

This is called A Ride in the Country. It's a work in progress. My son [5 years old] aided me in choosing the colors.

  1. Hi Eric,

What a beautiful illustration you have made. Is there only the one picture/page? Good luck with building the site. Please check out my author site...if you like it please leave a comment. Sally

  2. Whoa! This is awesome. I love the colors and detail and the way the image suggests story possibilities. The woman rider has a sort of Victorian-era quality of refinement and entitlement, which is made eerie and alien by the gas mask and exotic rhino/wild boar/wildabeast mount, and of course the hyperactive space monkey sidekick. Very cool.

  6. Hey, John! Thanks for stopping by.
This isn't for any particular story, but my doodles tend to be like that; they sort of tell little pieces of stories.
Thanks for the visit and kind word, friend.

And the thriftstore bag re-do on your blog... too cool. If I weren't a guy, i'd carry it.
I could call it a ManBag, Right?

  10. Lovin' the monkey. Jungle Book meets Salvador Dali. I write children's books and am going the self-publishing route as well as pursuing traditional publishing.
Have you uconsidered writing or weaving a story around these great illustrations? Many authors both write & illustrate.

  12. You are one talented and creative guy. Ambitious too! BTW what is that poking out from what appears to be a pack behind the fair rider? It looks like a large fork impaling a stale hotdog. Huh?

  15. Hahaha! That, Chris, is, or was supposed to be, a futuristic rifle stock... padded... thus the... whole... hot dog... thing.
Maybe I'll rework that a bit.

    Thanks for making me laugh.

  17. Well, it's not an 18th century French detective but anyone who draws monkeys is the best in my book. And your child has good taste.

  18. Congrats on the new blog. Saw your message on JacketFlap and had to check it out. I added you to my Writer Sites blog so I can come back to visit. Great illustration. Does the creature they are riding on have a name? Sort of looks like a rhino-hogwart-cow combination.

  22. I love your Runedoodles....they could make beautiful quilts..(patterns)...I am sure some of the ladies in my quilt guild would find such drawings challenging and fun especially if they were done in different colors. What fun.

  23. Quilts. I never would have thought of that. I'm not familiar with quilting's demands, so where would I start with such a project?

  26. This is absolutely incredible. I am astounded at the detail, color combinations, etc. I am an elementary teacher and I am trying to publish a children's book. I need an illustrator with your talent! How much do you charge? I just can't get over your work!

  28. Hi Eric, I think this will be my last comment on your work, as my opinions seem to be out of step with everyone elses. This drawing of the masked person on the bull-like animal, I think this picture is crazy, mixed up and is gross and meaningless. I actually find the creatures horrid, meaningless and frightening. I don't need or want to see pictures like this. I would just like to know from what area of your mind did you dream this up? Your obvious talent is lost to you and completely wasted. I wouldn't have a picture like this about me. Surely you could put your gift to better use.

  29. I've never encountered anyone so intent on finding meaningfulness in my work.

  30. You are really very good with impressions, forms, composition and colors. My first word that came to my mind was stylish. The more I look-the more I want to find every detail.

    Warmest regards,
